The pop icon explained how she moved on from the loss of her husband. Her advice can help you do the same.
There's a saying that suggests funerals aren't for the dead but are rather for those who are alive and grieving. The loss of a loved one is a terribly tragic and heartbreaking ordeal that we often feel we have to venture through alone. On some days, you get by and on other days, you don't even know how to get out of bed. It's especially difficult if you're not prepared to grieve. However, sometimes, you stumble upon gems of advice that can help you heal and surge through this loss, not forgetting or overcoming it as if it were a challenge, but rather, allowing yourself to let it empower you. After pop icon Celine Dion lost her husband, she too was in the same place. Her story of overcoming the loss of her one true love will help you heal and, more importantly, empower you to be the person your loved one would have wanted you to be.
In an interview with Good Morning America, she shared some advice about how she was able to move on while still keeping the memory of her husband alive three years after his death. Dion stated, "You cannot stop living. Go forward. And today's the first day of the beginning of my life, because I know that, I don't have to worry." Once you recognize that loss should not stop you from continuing to pursue your dreams and building the life that you and your loved one had imagined, you will be able to move forward and do them proud. After all, if they found out that your life came to a standstill because of them, they would probably be deeply hurt by the fact.
"The kids are growing, and I see them," she continued, giving us a little peek into her own life and process of moving on. "And I look at them and I'm like, 'Wow... We've done a great job,' and I'm so proud." Of course, nothing can ever compare to achieving your goals with your loved one by your side. Nonetheless, it is important to take a look around at all the wonderful things that they left behind. This will help you gain a sense of confidence to keep moving forward and keep striving towards making your biggest dreams come true. For Dion, that meant continuing to sing and do her absolute best when it came to her career.
At first, she put her career on hold. But she knew that wasn't what her late husband would have wanted. Dion said in another interview, "I understand that my career was in a way his masterpiece. The idea of leaving it unfinished would hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him." So, if there's anything you take away from her advice, remember that your life and achievements are the biggest testaments to the love you hold for the special person you sadly lost.
