In March 2003, Dion embarked on her first residency and went on to play a whopping 717 shows till December 2007. Soon enough, she returned, for her second venture, only to complete 424 gigs.
Céline Dion's 16-year residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas came to an end with a heartfelt performance on Saturday. She was joined by her sons René-Charles, Nelson, and Eddy on stage at the end of the concert where she paid tribute to her late husband René Angélil. A montage of Angélil played out in the background. Angélil, who was also Celine's manager, succumbed to cancer in 2016. The performance was extremely emotional as she performed "Flying on My Own", her new song from the upcoming album 'Courage', due for release in November, along with a series of her chart-topping hits.
According to Daily Mail, the songstress has captivated more than 4.5 million fans with 1,141 gigs for nearly two decades at the entertainment venue. After her stellar performance, Dion said, "I’m both proud and humbled by what we’ve accomplished at the Colosseum since we began sixteen years ago when René and I first shared this dream. This entire experience has been a huge part of my show business career…one that I will cherish forever."
"I have so many people to thank, but the most important ‘thank you’ goes to my fans, who gave us the opportunity to do what we love," she added. In March 2003, Dion embarked on her first residency and went on to play a whopping 717 shows till December 2007. Soon enough, she returned, for her second venture, only to complete 424 gigs. John Meglen, President & Co-CEO of Concerts West, a division of AEG Presents had only praise for Dion's dedication towards work.
He said, "The incredible vision that Céline and Rene had almost two decades ago has completely re-written the history and future of entertainment in Las Vegas." Gary Selesner, president of Caesars Palace, addressed Dion as the Queen of Las Vegas entertainment and added, " For an improbable 16 years, Céline Dion has reigned as the Queen of Las Vegas entertainment from The Colosseum at Caesars Palace."
"On behalf of all of my colleagues at Caesars Entertainment... we want to thank her and her late-husband René Angélil, and our partners at AEG/Concerts West, for their faith that Caesars Palace was the right place for Celine Dion to draw her millions of fans from around the world to see her perform," he added. According to Billboard, A New Day... is the most successful residency of all time, grossing over $385 million, followed by Céline, which grossed $245.5 million by December 2018.
A lot of people are inspired by Dion because she never gave up, even though life got hard for her, especially after the loss of her husband. Charlotte Arthur wrote: Celine you inspire me. You are a strong woman. What a beautiful person inside and out. I have seen you in concert in Vegas. And you were awesome. Love you. Remember to always take care of you. Beautiful family. God Bless You!
Romaine Lynn Hill wrote: Saw her in December (aside from the rude people next to me after paying 600.00) this was the most amazing performance I’ve ever seen. Her song Because you love me is our wedding song. I cried when she sang it. Just perfect! Alishia Zabalegui Teepe added: Love Celine Dion! Pure elegance and grace. I’ve seen her show in Las Vegas a few times and it’s always wonderful. Thank you, Celine, bravo!!!
