California K-9 Takes Down Assault Suspect After Jumping Through Shattered Car Window

In a video of this incident, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer, who served in the Marine Corps in Iraq can be seen breaking driver's side window of the pickup truck before entering the vehicle through the shattered glass.

An action-packed scene unraveled in California during the early hours of Friday when a police K-9 took an assault suspect down who allegedly was being chased by authorities. In a video of this incident, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer who served in the Marine Corps in Iraq can be seen breaking the driver's side window of the pickup truck before entering the vehicle through the shattered glass. According to a report by KTLA, the 5-year-old Belgian Malinois was then seen biting the man in question in an attempt to stop it. 



 

 

The vehicle was soon surrounded by officers who seemed to call off the dog as the man continued to struggle. Following this the suspect could be seen falling down to the ground as many officers take him down, The Fontana police later had later taken him into custody. As per the Corona Police Department, the high chase began after California Highway Patrol officers received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in Fontana. The pursuit came to an end near El Cerrito Road and the 15 Freeway around about 12:50 a.m., however, the  31-year-old suspect, Julio Ugalde Vasquez, refused to surrender, said police according to Fox News.



 

 

In an attempt to stop Vasquez, the California Highway Patrol local police called for backup in whose response, the K-9 named Duke was sent. CHP pursued a felony suspect, wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, into Corona ending near El Cerrito Road, and the 15 FWY, where the suspect refused to exit his vehicle to surrender, wrote the Corona Police Department, in a tweet. Officer Neff and his partner K9 Duke responded to assist and gave several opportunities for the suspect to give up as well, which he refused. K9 Duke apprehended the suspect, and Fontana Police took custody of him, it continued.



 

 

At the end of the dramatic chase, Vasquez was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the minor injuries he had suffered, reported the Corona police, who tweeted: The suspect was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. The officers, nor K9 Duke were injured during the incident. K9 Duke is a Belgian Malinois and is about 5 ½ years old. The reason behind this alleged assault was not mentioned. Taking to their Facebook page 'City of Corona Police', Department Officer Neff spoke about the challenging chase which came to an end with Duke by his side. He also noted that Duke and the officers present at the scene were not injured as the whole thing unfolded.
