"However you brought your baby into the world was right for you and your baby at that time and that’s what matters," wrote the 34-year-old actress.
Actress Gemma Atkinson recently entered the most beautiful phase of her life- motherhood. After giving birth to her first child in July this year, the UK star felt the need to address some of the misconceptions surrounding the C-section procedure of birthing a child. It's no surprise that many people have the intense urge to weigh in about every single aspect of being a parent. From trolling celebrities for their choice of birthing to pointing out their inadequacy when it comes to parenting, these people stop at nothing. But Atkinson wasn't one to quietly listen to such nonsense and so she took to Instagram to talk about an instance when someone regarding her c-section birth as an "easy" way out.
Posting a meme on her Instagram account the proud mother wrote: A lady recently joked with me that id had the easy option when it came to having Mia as I didn’t experience “proper labour” she wasn’t being nasty, she said it in jest and she was actually really lovely, but it did get me thinking when I got home. Had I failed? Had I not done it “properly” ? Is making a mother feel small about her birthing choice a wise thing to do? Umm..no. Definitely not. I'm sure other C-section moms out there will agree how it is not a breezy procedure. And it's definitely not an easy way out.
This is exactly what Atkinson though after pondering over this conversation. After a good chat with myself i came to the conclusion that the only ‘proper’ way to have a baby is the way that’s safest for you and your baby. There is nothing easy about having a section. There is nothing easy about a vaginal delivery. They are both tiring, scary, emotionally draining and each have their own recovery process both mentally & physically, continued the post.
Now, for those who think that C-section is a piece of cake, let me tell you that it's not. It's some scratch on your skin that heals almost easily. And Catherine Brooks, a health professional with an MPH degree and most importantly a C-section mother too agrees with the same. "Five layers of tissue are cut through, and the abdominal muscles are pulled apart like string cheese," she said according to a report by Scary Mommy. Doesn't sound so easy anymore, huh? Let alone undergoing this procedure, just thinking about the process can easily make one running for the hill. She further said, "If you had knee surgery, the skin closes in 7-10 days, but you wouldn’t be ‘back to normal,’ – you’d be hobbling about with a brace on,” she says. “But moms are up being moms, focusing on the baby, not on the surgery." In my opinion, only people without the proper knowledge of what a C-section entails make such bizarre comments.
Getting back to the 34-year-old's post, she didn't shy away from backing up her fellow C-section moms. Just like any "normal" person, she too believes in a mother's right to deem what's good for herself and her child. Concluding the post she wrote: However you brought your baby into the world was right for you and your baby at that time and that’s what matters. To any mums who like me, had to have a section and are feeling a little odd about it (which is normal) the above is for you. ❤️
