"She told me to stop answering calls from my dad so he won't take money from me and that I needed to sell my $17K Hyundai accent to pay for the wedding."
Some people are just so selfish that it's mind-boggling. One such post on Reddit's AITA thread is about a woman who has been giving the man she's in a relationship with a rather tough time because of the situation he's in. The man, who is struggling with his job and money this year says his fiancee has been pestering him to get married, despite knowing his situation. He wrote: First of all I'd like to mention I (30M) drive 2 hours every day for work, I've been looking for a job with my degree for a long time and there were no job opportunity available in my area, the nearest company is 2 hours away and I can not move because of my house mortgage.
As he explained, it's not been easy for him. My fiancee of 1 year has been rushing me for a wedding saying she's waited longer than any of her friends did, she asked if I could ask my parents to pay but my parents are already struggling with my sister's cancer and they've been spending money on chemo (they don't have insurance, and no one is willing to help,it's really messed up here). Apparently, she wants to get married immediately because all her friends are getting married and she doesn't want to be the last one left in the group. Honestly, this is quite problematic!
I told my fiancee that I'm starting to save money to be able to afford the wedding expenses, and she didn't accept saying that "I sneak my money behind her back to help my parents pay for my sister's treatment ) I told her that I can't turn down my parents who are struggling and have no one who can support, not to mention paying her for things like presents/clothes/dinners etc. The man is doing everything he can to help out his family and keep his fiancee happy, but no matter what he does, it just doesn't seem enough. It seems like she wants him to give up on his family completely.
Last week, she received a wedding invitation from her best friend and she came to see me looking so upset telling me that her friend is getting married before her and she hated that, She said that her best friend apparently got herself a reliable fiancé unlike me and she said she got sick of people asking her when she'll get married, I told her to tell them off it wasn't their business, but she told me that I needed to do something. Does she think putting pressure on him will get him to buckle? The next idea she came up with was rather extreme and super selfish.
She told me to stop answering calls from my dad so he won't take money from me and that I needed to sell my 17.000$ Hyundai accent to pay for the wedding, she even said that we needed to get married before the end of 2020, I argued with her about her unreasonable request and how I'm going to lose my job if I sell my car and end up unemployed after looking for so long, That's not a way to get married. She refused to drop it, called and texted to convince me that if we don't get married before the end of 2020 then there will not be a wedding at all. No, she wasn't done with her threats.
Soon, the man noticed that his car, the one he refused to give up, was on a website with pictures for sale. Friday, I came across an ad online and saw my car for sale with pictures, when I confronted her she said she was handling it and was going to tell me soon as she found a buyer, I got mad at her and I haven't seen her eversince. She's crying saying that I'm picking a car over her and that she was trying to make this work for us. Edit I took a screenshot of the ad on Facebook so she won't deny it. I'm in the middle east, you can see the screenshot on my reddit profile, it has been posted for five days. Of course, he's not at fault and others agreed, too.
