While the two fathers have't always seen eye to eye, the biological dad felt it was his way of thanking him for bringing up their daughter.
A wedding is an incredibly happy and emotional event in a person's life. At Todd Bachman's daughter's wedding, it was a little more than just that. Bachman's daughter Brittany Peck was getting married, and all that was left was for her to walk the aisle, say her vows, and ride off into the sunset with her beau. In this case, there was a slight complication. The bride was raised just as much by her stepfather, Todd Cendrosky. As is with weddings, it is an honor for every dad to walk his daughter down the aisle. As Cendrosky sat waiting in the crowd to watch his stepdaughter walk down the aisle, Bachman did something truly amazing. He quickly ran over to the front seat and dragged Cendrosky back to the start of the aisle. According to USA Today, what followed was a truly heart-wrenching series of events where the two fathers, one on either side, walked Brittany down the aisle to her soon-to-be husband.
Speaking to Huff Post, Delia D Blackburn, an Ohio-based photographer who took pictures of the dramatic scene, stated she'd never seen anything like it before. "It was one of the most compassionate gestures toward a stepparent I've ever seen," she said. "The bride was in tears and overcome with emotion." She was not the only one, guests at the wedding, too, were moved by this touching gesture. According to WKYC-TV the thought of not walking his stepdaughter down the aisle had crossed his mind. Cendrosky said: "Every time we tried on tuxes, or did some planning, it crossed my mind that I'd be sitting in the crowd, not walking her down the aisle." However, that wasn't to be. "[He] came and grabbed my hand and said: 'You worked as hard as I have. You'll help us walk our daughter down the aisle,'" he recalled Bachman saying to him. "I got weak in the knees and lost it. Nothing better in my life, the most impactful moment in my life."
Bachman explained his action, stating: "For me to thank him for all the years of helping raise OUR daughter wouldn't be enough. There is no better way to thank somebody than to assist me walking her down the aisle." Bachman added that things haven't always been smooth sailing between the two of them. He said: "It hasn't always been peaches and cream...by any stretch of the imagination." Yet, he believed the wedding was a perfect way to extend his heartfelt thanks to him. Bachman had something up his sleeve according to the photographer. "He told me: I'm going to do something special. Be ready."
Weeks prior to the wedding, Bachman received a call from his daughter who told him that something was "bothering" her, the point behind which he immediately understood. "She called me and said, 'Dad, something’s bothering me,'" Bachman told the Chronicle-Telegram. "I told her I already had something planned. She was so torn, and the last thing I wanted was for her to be torn." Meanwhile, Cendrosky said: "I always wanted to [walk a daughter] down the aisle, and when I married my beautiful wife, Candy, she gave me three daughters. I don’t have 'stepdaughters,' I have daughters. We have become family, and the children’s needs need to come first."
Blackburn posted the pictures on Facebook which quickly went viral earning more than 12-million views and one million likes within the first 30 hours.
