After the unfortunate incident, the owners decided to euthanize the dog, but "Bridger actually cried when he found out that the dog would be put down."
A 6-year-old boy is now being hailed as a hero for his bravery. Bridger from Cheyenne, Wyoming, didn't think twice before he stood between his sister and a charging dog to protect her from the attack, according to his aunt Nikki Walker. When he saw the dog get too close to his sister, he put himself in harm's way to ensure that his sibling remained safe. The enraged dog bit him on his face and head. When asked about why he did what he did, he said, "If someone had to die, I thought it should be me." Walker shared the story on Instagram along with heartbreaking pictures of the toddler bruised badly with “90 stitches (give or take) from a skilled plastic surgeon."
Since Bridger was a superhero, it only made sense for his proud aunt to tag several actors who played superheroes on-screen. These included Tom Holland, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Tom Hiddleston, Chadwick Boseman, Vin Diesel, and Chris Evans. Walker wrote: Hey, all. Please, share my nephew’s story so that it gets as much exposure as it can. We know that our little hero would love some words of encouragement from his favorite heroes. On July 9th, my six-year-old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog. After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe.
She added that he was resting at home after his procedure and that she tagged all these superheroes because she wants them to know of the latest hero who joined their ranks. The pictures were bittersweet, knowing that the little one had saved his sister while being hurt. However, Walker was kind enough to post an update about Bridger, just to let his fans know that he was doing well. She wrote: I just finished visiting with Bridger at his home. His wounds are looking so much better! He’s in great spirits, and his awesome personality is intact. He can’t smile too widely yet, but he was grinning as I read some of your comments to him.
Walker even spoke about the dog's family, adding that there's no bad blood between them. I’d also like to mention here that the dog’s owners are really great people who have been nothing but kind to Bridger and his family. We feel no resentment toward them at all, and—if anything—there’s only been an increase of love between our families as a result of this incident. As for the dog, Walker replied in the comments section that the dog "was a German Shepherd mix," adding that the dog's owners had decided to euthanize their pet after the horrific incident. Walker also said that this decision to put the dog down greatly upset Bridger.
She said, "Bridger actually cried when he found out that the dog would be put down. He hated the idea of any dog—even that one—dying." She then added how people have been inquiring about helping Bridger and his family out financially. l’ve had lots of inquiries about a GoFundMe. Bridger’s family has asked that anyone wishing to help out financially can, instead, donate to@mission_22 (a community organization dedicated to veterans in need or the wounded warrior project.) or @wwp. Bridger is also a huge fan of Science, especially Geology. So I’m going to start a post where people can share with him pictures of cool rocks that they see.
If you'd like to send him some rocks, here's his address: Bridger Walker, P.O. Box 22141, Cheyenne, WY 82003. Ruby Rose, Mark Ruffalo, and Anne Hathaway are some of the celebrities who have shared the boy's story on their profile. Hathaway shared a collage with the caption: I’m not an Avenger, but I know a superhero when I see one. I can only hope I’m half as brave in my life as you are in yours, Bridger. Wishing you an easeful recovery, and many cool looking rocks. Mark Ruffalo himself left a comment on the photos praising Bridger.
Ruffalo wrote: Dear Bridger, I just read about what happened to you and I wanted to reach out to say this... People who put the well beings of others in front of themselves are the most heroic and thoughtful people I know. I truly respect and admire your courage and your heart. Real courage isn’t dominating people or fighting against people or walking around like a tough guy. Real courage is knowing what is right to do and doing it even when it might end up hurting you somehow. You are more of man than many, many I have seen or known. With Admiration... Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk/Professor). Ruby Rose left a simple yet powerful comment: True hero.
