"The suspects fled the scene and more shots were fired. Luckily, no one was physically injured," stated a police update on the situation.
A five-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after he reportedly tackled an armed gunman during a home invasion when four men burst into his family’s home, according to ABC News. The South Bend Police Department released CCTV footage of the invasion on Facebook, in an appeal to the public to help identify the suspects in the video. The incident occurred on September 30th. Out of the four men, at least three of them were armed, and they forcefully made their way inside of the family’s home at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the Westside neighborhood of South Bend, Indiana, after a child answered the door, as per the police department.
In the video, two men who have covered their faces with hoodies on, and can be seen charging into the living room. There, a woman seemed to be ironing clothes on the floor and there were two small kids standing by the sofa. One of the hooded gunmen raises his gun and holds it just inches away from the woman's face who falls back into a chair. That's when the five-year-old boy began hitting the armed invader from behind. One more gunman comes to help and he then makes his way into another room. The boy is then seen throwing an object at one of the suspects before charging him from behind in the altercation.
Something's wrong there. The house doesn't look like a prime target (iron on the floor) for four gunmen to rob mid-day. There must be something like a known stash of cash there.— Clark Griswold (@NotTodayLuv) October 14, 2020
The police department shared on Facebook: PLEASE SHARE: We need your help identifying these individuals responsible for a home invasion. On September 30 around 10:30AM, officers were called to the 500 block of S. Grant in reference to shots fired. When they arrived, they learned there was a home invasion. Four males, all with hoodies on, knocked on the front door. A juvenile occupant opened the door and the four males forced themselves inside. At least three of the four were armed with handguns. The suspects fled the scene and more shots were fired. Luckily, no one was physically injured.
What a hero he is. I'm glad he's okay and no one was seriously injured.— Rachel (@Racheldollton) October 14, 2020
This video is extremely disturbing. You can see a little boy hitting one of the armed suspects as he tries to defend his home. It is our job now to defend him. If you have any information on who these men are, please call Michiana Crime Stoppers at 574-288-STOP or 800-342-STOP. You can also call our South Bend Police Department Investigative Bureau at 574-235-9263. There were a lot of comments below the video shared by the police department. Most of them were about the little boy's bravery, while others commented about how unsafe it is to let a child open a door.
Was thinking the same thing. Most people have cams at the entrances/outside their home. Seems kind of odd to have a camera in your house. I know people do but its weird.— Kelly 🍁🐧 (@RageGrl) October 14, 2020
Laurie McDonel Sipe wrote: This is so disturbing, but that little man deserves some recognition, he fought harder then some adult men.. I hope you find them. This family all needs to hug each other, this could have been alot worse. Julia Simbeck-Majewski commented: That little boy defending his family was put in a situation he should never of been in!!! Sad and disgusting that this family will now be traumatized because of some cowards!!! Hope they find who did this! Michael Arnett commented: A child should never have to fight for the survival of his family like he did. This kid deserves a peaceful life. Hes a good kid. He like hell for his mom. He as shown he is more of a man then the guys in this video.
