This, honestly, is so cute and heartwarming, and truly makes you believe in love. Congratulations to Edi and Cally!
There's nothing more beautiful than to find two people in love who decide to take things to the next step. Times have changed now and not everyone wants to settle down and start a family, but that doesn't mean that if there is someone who wants to do that, they can't. But, proposals have, for the longest time, been the man getting down on one knee and asking the woman to spend the rest of her life with him. Don't get me wrong, I love me some romance, but not everyone does, and they probably want a proposal that's a bit different from the usual.
This b(rings) us to the story of Edi Okoro and Cally Read, and how he proposed to her, but not before parading the ring before her for a very long time. The funniest bit about this is the fact that she did not really notice the ring. Honestly, Edi has managed to capture some daring images of the ring with Cally, but she has no idea about it. Yes, that's right. Wondering how he managed to do it? Well, thankfully for all of us, he documented his risky business on social media platform Facebook!
He wrote: I can finally put this out there. So this was how I proposed to Cally, the other story! Those who have gone through this (and those who will soon find out) you want to propose in a way that speaks to you as a person and couple. Some plan a flash mob, a fancy meal, or even arrange a marry me a sign. I couldn’t do this because “Edi doesn’t plan”... I’m a spontaneous improviser! You don't do something just because the people around you are doing it. You do it because that's what you really want to do.
This made it even more of a challenge because Cally knows this, and the moment I planned a holiday or meal she would have clocked on to what I was about to do. Because of this, I took the ring with me everywhere hoping the “moment” would arise in line with my spontaneous style. When you know someone, and you've spent too much time together, you start to get a little predictable, which isn't really a bad thing, so she would have guessed a proposal if he'd gone for a traditional way.
After a month or so of waiting for the right moment, I was sitting on the sofa admiring “my precious” (yes I became very attached to this ring by this point) Cally almost caught me staring at the ring, and it hit me!.... All these missed opportunities mixed in with the thought - Cally doesn’t know I have the ring!! I should just start documenting these moments! What a genius idea. It's unique and it's fun, to walk around with a secret like that!
This escalated quickly into trying to get as many photos of Cally with the ring without her knowing!.... yes she had no idea what I was doing in these photos!!! The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose! Here are some of the photos I captured over the space of about a month before I found the right moment (this is a story in its own right).
What if she just turned around?
If you didn't believe he was being risky, he decided to capture a couple of videos to go along with this, too, just to show you how this whole thing happened!
He did propose to her and he did update all his eager fans on social media, but he said he's saving the story of how he proposed for another time. So we did end up getting engaged, and no I didn’t get caught...but how I did it is a story for another time, stay tuned! We took this photo not long after she said YES ...She didn’t know about this library until several weeks later... My smile is a “you know nothing Cally Read” smile.
