Bin Collectors Surprise Lonely, Elderly Woman With A Cake For Her 100th Birthday

A video was posted on the Reddit community HumansBeingBros, and has warmed the hearts of many for this thoughtful gesture.

A simple, thoughtful and kind gesture can brighten anyone's day.  Just ask Mercy who received the surprise of her life when a group of bin collectors showed up on her doorstep to wish her on her 100th birthday with a cake. A video which was posted on Reddit went viral.

The footage was posted by a user called Boldstyle1 on the Reddit subthread HumansBeingBros. As the video begins, one can clearly see a few men walking towards a house dressed in their hi-visibility jackets. It seems like they had taken some time off work to surprise her. One man, wearing a fluorescent yellow shirt is seen holding a pretty pink cake. Shielding the lit candles with the figure 100 on it, they make their way to her door.  As they make their way, one can also see some colorful balloons hanging on what appears to be a signboard.  They also call out to her.

One of the bin collectors knocks on the door. As soon as she opens the door, they start singing Happy Birthday in unison. Mercy, understandably, is overwhelmed as she hides her face with her hands, but is floored and thankful for their kind gesture. After they finish singing, the workmen indulge in some light-hearted banter with her, as they share a good rapport and joke with each other.

One of them asks her if she's "alright" with this sudden surprise. The person who had been holding the cake urges Mercy to blows out the candles and make a wish. She begins by saying, "Oh, I wish, I," but is immediately cut off by him as he jokingly says, "to live a 105." This makes the boys erupt into laughter as Mercy asks them to "shut up" and brushes him off.  Social media denizens were so moved by this video that they could not help but leave comments.

Sharing a personal story, Derekaspringer wrote: My great grandma is 103 now and just stopped driving last year..None of us told her to stop driving she decided herself that it was time. She hit a rock and it bounced up and put a hole in her muffler. Everyone around town was asking if they wanted her to look at her car and she had no idea there was anything wrong with it haha. The thing was fairly loud with a giant hole in the exhaust if you can imagine and once she found that out she decided if she couldn't hear that then it was time to stop driving because what if it was a kid yelling or something that she didn't hear? She's still of very sound mind at least! Only stopped cross country skiing at 87. Lives on her own still too.. It amazes me honestly.. Seems like there's always one grandma in every family who just lives forever.

Another user, Darthmonk867 wrote: This is honestly one of the nicest things I’ve ever seen. I used to work in a retirement home and there’s nothing more special than seeing the residents be surprised and happy by nice gestures. We don’t tend to think about it a lot, but old age can be very hard for a lot of people and I’d imagine this really helped brighten up her day. studentonpills shared how this post made her day a little better writing: I've had a really bad day. I got called a waste of space by my boss and I've been fired. I've spent all day doing work on my thesis. I just watched that and my heart just exploded.
