Baby Born Without Eyes Hopes To Find Forever Home After Birth Mom Gives Him Up

There are only thought to be two other cases of babies born without eyes registered in the world.

A mother's love is said to be unconditional, but some people are not that fortunate to experience that. A little boy is in search of a loving home after his young mother abandoned him. According to Mirror Online, baby Alexander K–known as Sasha–born without eyes but otherwise healthy, to a rare condition that only two other babies in the world have. The little baby was born in April and while he's otherwise healthy, doctors say he will never be able to see again.

His young mother had been raised in an orphanage and she decided to give up her baby before he was born as she didn't feel confident she'd be able to give him the life he needed. A nurse in the Siberian city of Tomsk, who is now caring for the six-month-old boy, said: "He is no different to other children, he plays and smiles just like any healthy baby. He loves playing and adores swimming. He is a very cheerful baby indeed."

Sasha has two benign cysts on his forehead, which need to be removed soon. The little boy is believed to have an extreme form of the rare SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome, which afflicts one in a quarter of a million. Russian doctors say Sasha is one of only three babies registered in the world with no eyeballs at all, but he is seen as 'unique' because most babies born with the condition also have multiple other ailments. Thankfully, as the doctors said before, the baby is healthy.

"Sasha is going through all regular check-ups and tests like any other baby of his age. He is doing well," Tomsk doctor Tatiana Rudnikovich said. Sadly, they also believe there are zero to no chances of the baby ever being able to see again. His adoption listing says Sasha is a peaceful, smiling baby. It also says: He smiles back as soon as he hears familiar voices. His mother signed his refusal papers in the maternity hospital.

There is no information about Alexander's father and there is a 'dash' in his birth certificate where it should have been the name of the father. Alexander is up for adoption or foster care. The beautiful baby hopes to be adopted into a Russian family, but if that does not happen he will be up for adoption to foreign parents. However, there seem to be restrictions towards adoption inquiries that come from the US.

Sasha's carer nurse recently took him 2,500 miles to St Petersburg, where surgeons implanted tiny eye orbs to ensure that his face is not deformed as he grows. Now he will need these surgeries every 6 months or so, to keep increasing the size of the orbs along with his growth. There are only thought to be two other cases of babies born without eyes registered in the world - the most well-known of which is baby Archie Innes, who is now two-years-old.

He was born to Scottish parents Fiona and Steven Gould, and they currently live in Sydney, Australia. They were told about Archie's condition 31 weeks into her pregnancy. In Archie's case, the child has also experienced severe gross motor delay, mild-to-moderate hearing impairment, and moderate aspiration. Here's hoping the cute little Sasha gets adopted by loving parents who are willing to give him a forever home.
