A survey conducted revealed that this is the one song that people did not want to listen to during the holiday season.
Mariah Carey made a name for herself way back in 1994 with a song that's still famous. Known as 'All I want for Christmas is you', the song is from Carey's 1994 album, Merry Christmas II You. I'm sure most of us have heard it on several occasions and we've all been slightly annoyed by it at some point. Well, we're definitely not alone. The song has been voted the most annoying in a Christmas poll. I mean, it has been around for decades now, and people are done with hearing the same song for every Christmas. According to Evening Standard, a survey conducted by the mobile phone company Huawei asked Brits if there was a song they could really go without hearing this holiday season and Mariah Carey's hit topped the list!
If you want to know the magnitude of the song, Carey earned $60 million in royalties alone! This year's also a special occasion for Carey and the song because it turns 25! To celebrate this occasion, the singer has released a new Deluxe Anniversary Edition which consists of two CDs, the original along with a bonus disc that includes remixes and unreleased live tracks. The new edition also includes "brand-new, festive rendition of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
"As an extra bonus for fans, this special edition package includes rare photos, a personal note from Mariah, and some Mariah-themed Christmas decorations," according to the official merchandise website. Not to mention the fact that being overplayed to death has its own benefits. The song is considered to be the 12th best-selling single of all time. It was uploaded to YouTube on Nov 23, 2009, and since then, it has managed to rake in over 564,955,183 views!
Needless to say, having received the title for the most annoying song isn't going to rustle any of Mariah's feathers. There are several others who love the Christmas classic and Mariah Carey has been declared as the top female artist of all time by Billboard. “Look, I’ve devoted my life to this career and writing songs,” says Carey, 49. “Obviously I have my own babies now. But these are my little song babies.”
She adds, "When I look back on the songs that I’ve written that have become part of people’s lives, that’s what makes me the most proud. “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the constant presence at Christmastime -- to feel that as someone who loves Christmas so much, I can’t even explain." Anyway, for the list of top ten annoying songs, even though Carey's song tops the list, here are some of the other songs that people found to be most annoying even though Christmas is supposed to be the happiest holiday of the year.
