The nicest guy in Hollywood turns 56 today! Yes, we're talking about legendary actor and the internet's sweetheart Keanu Reeves. Even though he's turned a year older, the broody handsome hunk doesn't seem to have aged a day since the first installment of John Wick was released. But his eternally youthful looks isn't the only thing that has made Reeves the most loved actor in Hollywood. Insider has even gone on to list 13 reasons why the actor is the "greatest person ever". It included everything from being respectful towards his female fans with his "hovering hands" to generous gestures like giving up his seats on a crowded subway train. But the recent revelation about silently doing charitable work for years has everyone crooning over the Matrix star.

Reeves, who is known for leading a notoriously private life, once revealed that he runs a private foundation that works towards providing aid to children's hospitals and cancer research. He revealed the informing in a 2009 article published by Ladies Home Journal, per the fact-checking website Snopes. "I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does," he reportedly said. Cancer research seems to be a cause close to the actor's heart as he has experienced what the illness can do to someone you deeply love.

Kim, Reeves's sister was reportedly diagnosed with leukemia around 1991 and battled the disease for near a decade. Although the actor refrained from sharing the details of the difficult period, he did open up about the special bond he shared with his sibling. "I love Kim. She's so brave, and I want the very best for her. You can star in hit movies, but that's nothing compared to going through what Kim's been through," he said. The Devil's Advocate actor has recently been in the news for his impeccable manners and generous acts of kindness. Recently a Twitter user opened up about an incident where the star gave a fan his autograph after realizing that he was too shy to ask for it. In order to sign his autograph onto a paper, he even bought ice cream!

“I realized you probably wanted my autograph,” he says. “So I signed this.” He hands me a receipt from the concessions stand that he signed on the back. He then casually throws an ice cream cone in the trash can and sees his movie. I realize later that he bought an ice cream cone he didn’t want, just to get receipt paper so he could scribble his autograph for a 16-year-old idiot, wrote the user. Last year when the Speed star was stranded at Bakersfield after his flight from San Francisco to Burbank in Los Angeles had to make an emergency landing, he ensured all his fellow passenger reached their destination safely instead of calling a chauffeur and zooming away.

But behind Reeves' charming smile and sweet personality is a heartbreaking story of loss and it began when he lost his best friend River Phoenix, the brother of Joaquin Phoenix, in 1993. Just as he was healing from this heartbreak, he met Jennifer Syme in 1998 and both began dating. As the couple was preparing to birth their daughter Ava and start their "happily ever after" story, Syme gave birth to a stillborn baby girl. Following a tragic funeral, the couple parted ways and began healing individually still remaining best friend up until 2001. Unfortunately, Syme died in a car crash leaving Reeves to deal with another loss. "Grief changes shape, but it never ends," the actor said at the time, according to Daily Mail

What's commendable is Reeves' ability to bounce back from his tragedy and come out strong and positive. Perhaps this positivity helped him find love once again. He appeared at the LACMA Art + Film Gala, Los Angeles, last year with his 46-year-old girlfriend Alexandra Grant, and needless to say, million hearts were broken that day. The actor in his Hollywood career of 35 years has never been witnessed bringing a date to such social meets. But it seems like he has finally found a hand and romantic glances to share while walking down red carpets.
