You've got one life and it's always best to live your life to the fullest. You don't know how long you'll live, so you'd be wasting your life if you don't follow your heart and your dreams. But, if you ever hit a point where you feel like you need to seek approval from someone else to live your life the way you want to, then you are setting yourself up for a world of trouble. I mean, you're basically handing over the reins to your life to another person, and they may not necessarily know what's best for you. One thing you need to remember is that it's your life and you ought to make your own decisions.

1. It promotes fear

When you feel the need to ask someone else for approval, you build expectations. You know what it is that you really want, but you're not sure what their answer will be. This uncertainty causes fear in your mind.

2. It discourages you from following your heart

Now that you need someone to tell you what to do and what not to do, that little voice in your mind goes on standby. You become so dependent on someone else's approval that you forget to follow your own heart.

3. You drain your own energy

This anticipation can be a real buzzkill. If you keep anticipating answers from another person who basically makes all your life decisions, then that can actually drain all the energy out of you, leaving you tired and cranky all the time.

4. You can't please everyone

The main thing here is that you're not a robot. You're built to please yourself and not everyone around you. Sure, the moment you start doing things for yourself, it can piss off a few people around you, but at the end of the day, you make yourself happy.

5. You are restricting your own freedom

You as an individual need to have a sense of identity and freedom to do what you want to. This is how it works when you aren't dependent on someone else to tell you what's right from wrong. When you seek approval from someone else, you're hindering your own freedom.

6. You waste a lot of time seeking approval from others

The thing about asking another person for their approval is that you end up wasting a lot of time. Before you approach them, you spend time wondering how to present the issue to them. Then you wait around for their answer. You see how you're wasting time, right?

7. Your happiness is in someone else's hands

By doing this, you're quite literally placing your happiness in someone else's hands and there's nothing worse than this. You're honestly robbing yourself of peace and joy. This is the worst you could do to yourself.

8. You don't know yourself at all

When you wait around to seek approval from someone else, you're losing out on getting to know yourself in the process. You mold yourself into someone else's expectations. This causes you to lose out on you as a person. You're alive, but barely.
