The tradition of handing out free Slurpees every 11th July has been around for well over a decade, with the first 7-Eleven Day taking place back in 2002 as a way to celebrate the convenience store's 75th birthday.
Staying true to its name, on the eleventh day of the seventh month, 7-Eleven is giving out free Slurpees. On Thursday, 11th July, the supermarket chain will be handing out Slurpees to its customers between 11 am and 7 pm. They plan on giving out roughly 9 million small-sized free Slurpees across the US, according to USA Today. 7-Eleven will also have $1 deals on Thursday to celebrate their birthday, including hot dogs, pizza slices, Cherry Slurpee cookies, and Nashville Hot Chicken Tenders. Business Insider also reports that they will debut a new Slurpee flavor: Blueberry Lemonade.
Now that you know it's going to be free, there are a few things that you need to remember. First off, free Slurpees last only as long as stocks do. Also, you only get one Slurpee per customer at a location. But, no one's going to stop you from driving over to the next one for another free Slurpee. However, there will be a line, and you will have to be brave enough to stand in it for God knows how long.
Also, 7Rewards members can get an extra freebie. Members of the loyalty program who scan their app, card or enter their phone number when they get their free small Slurpee Thursday will receive a free any-size Slurpee to redeem July 12 through Aug. 12. YAY! The tradition of handing out free Slurpees every 11th July has been around for well over a decade, with the first 7-Eleven Day taking place back in 2002 as a way to celebrate the convenience store's 75th birthday. This year, the store turns a whopping 92!
The company claims that July 11 has become the busiest day for them since they began the tradition. "Since inventing convenience retailing in 1927, 7-Eleven has continued innovating on behalf of customers for more than 92 years," 7-Eleven CEO Joe DePinto said in a statement. "Fifty years ago, that meant introducing America to Slurpee, 7-Eleven's beloved brand," continued DePinto.
"Today, our customer obsession drives digital innovation, like our 7Rewards loyalty app, scan and pay mobile checkout, under 30-minute delivery with the new 7NOW app, and product innovations like Nitro Cold Brew Coffee, Roamer canned wine, cold-pressed juices, hot entrees and many more." Everyone was happy about the news, and they took to social media to celebrate!
