Jacee Dellapena was quite upset when at the thought of missing her brother's birth because she was too short but the OB-GYN had a better idea.
An emotional moment transpired when a young girl got the opportunity of delivering her baby brother. Dede Carraway went into labor and was all set to birth her child. Carraway had no idea how eventful the birth of her son would be, especially when her OB-GYN suggested a little change in the procedure. The mother had already come up with a birth plan, which included her 12-year-old daughter Jacee Dellapena's presence in the delivery room. Initially, the middle schooler was left upset at the thought of missing the moment her baby brother entered the world, as she was quite short to see it. "I started crying because I thought I wasn’t going to get to see him be born because I was too short," the girl told WBTV back in 2017, according to BBC.
Thankfully, the doctor had some other plans for her and it didn't just involve clearing the space to allow the girl to see the birth of her brother. Dr. Wolf asked Jacee if she was up for something she had never done in her life. He had offered her to help him deliver the baby brother and of course, the would-be sister was more than willing to do so despite having some reservations about it. Jacee did not have any experience delivering babies and this concerned her as well as his mother but after being reassured by the medical experts Jacee immediately took ger place in front of Dr. Wolf and helped welcome her brother into this world.
"My doctor suggested, 'Jacee why don't you suit up and come deliver the baby.' I was in shock lol! I told her as long as Zack [her husband] doesn't care, go ahead," wrote Carraway on Facebook. Recounting the moment, Jacee told msnewnow, "I actually delivered him, like, he let me actually push down and pull the baby out…. I was like, wow, like I’ve played fake doctor before, but this is the real thing, this is is the real deal. I was really nervous." Jacee helped deliver a 7-pound, 6-ounce boy named Cayson Carraway and it was an experience she will definitely remember all her life. The proud sister also got the opportunity of cutting the umbilical cord of her brother as her father captured the priceless moment.
Carraway revealed that watching her daughter's elated face helped her get through the delivery. "Dr. Wolfe actually put her hands on the inside of his and allowed her to do the entire delivery," she said. "We were all very emotional and it was like no feeling I've ever felt. It's not every day your eldest child at 12 years old gets to deliver your last child," she continued according to Inside Edition. Furthermore, she explained how it was a moment that the mother would never forget. "Seeing the emotions on her face, it made me cry. I’m about to cry now! It was just a good moment for me," said Carraway.
The post immediately went viral garnering over 323,000 likes and more than 44,000 comments. User Jennifer Barry Kelly wrote: I was my Moms lamaz coach at 12 and was right there next to her during the delivery of my brother. One of the best experiences of my life. I'm now an obstetrical ultrasound sonographer. Another Ashley Hursh expressed: My now 14 year old, helped deliver my son when she was just 6. She asked to stay and they let her stand right there. She also got to look at and learn about the placenta. She thought it was the coolest thing ever. She is now headed into high school with all honors and bio-med as a freshman.
However, there were some who thought that allowing a child to see childbirth wasn't a responsible decision, but many came to Carraway's rescue and explained how it was a rather natural and beautiful process that no one should shy away from irrespective of their age. The mother herself posted a comment later which read: I am so glad jacee is being seen all over the world! Although some of you may not agree with her helping deliver her baby brother, this beautiful moment will always be remembered by both her mother and herself. If you don't like the post just keep scrolling, no need to comment and speak negative. Birth is a natural process and there is absolutely nothing wrong with allowing her daughter to witness this beautiful moment. It's not for everyone but jacee was a rockstar and helped deliver a newborn! I don't know about you but I wouldn't have when I was 12! Mother and baby are being discharged home today and jacee is ecstatic about the feedback she's getting
