Dr. Jill Biden Wore A Pair Of Patterned Tights, And We're All For It

Last week First Lady Jill Biden left her staff, the Secret Services, and reporters in stitches after playing a little prank on them. On April Fool's day, she successfully disguised herself as a flight attendant and served everyone ice cream during the in-flight meal service. While her prank was a success, her sentiment to put smiles across people's faces, which was quickly overshadowed due to the choice of her outfit which became fodder for the trolls. As Dr. Jill Biden exited the Air Force One, she was seen donning a flowy leather-trimmed dress with a pair of playfully patterned, fishnet-adjacent tights and ankle boots. Fashionistas across the nation were left drooling after seeing Dr. Biden pull off the kickass outfit but the same cannot be said for the conservatives who saw it as an opportunity to attack the Bidens. 

Dr. Biden stunned people as she waked at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland following her visit in California. Conservatives were horrified with Dr. Biden's bold choice of stockings and of course, they couldn't let go of a scandal of this proposition because the Biden White House rarely, if ever, produces personal scandal. It didn't take them long to voice their opinions and flood social media with sexist tweets criticizing the 69-year-old. They felt her look was "trashy" and racy, as they compared it to the iconic Madonna (but seriously, I don't see the insult here). They went on to outrageously claimed the FLOTUS was just "too old" to be wearing tights like these.

Wardrobe controversies are regrettably nothing new for first couples residing in the White House. Previously, former First Lady Michelle Obama caused quite a stir after sporting a sleeveless dress that showed off her toned triceps and biceps. Next, it was her husband's tan suit that left everyone debating. That day, then-President Barack announced a serious development in their strategy to combat ISIS in Syria, but somehow the topic of discussion strayed to the color of the suit he was wearing. Even Melania Trump was not spared when she wore the notorious "I Really Don't Care Do U?" jacket. Yet conservatives were all praise for Mrs. Trump and did defend her for the jacket she wore during Trump's controversial border separation policy. 

For the right-wing, commenting on the physical appearance of American first ladies is a tradition, but the latest episode of hyper-focusing on something as petty as stockings has left many in disbelief. People argued as to why Dr. Biden's choice of tights were even a topic of discussion and why everyone only focused on their appearance and not on what they are doing or not doing for the country. Even Melania Trump wasn't spared whom they regarded as "the classiest first lady in US history" and struggled to look past the former model's designer clothes. However, there's a stark contrast between her and Dr. Biden, who has mostly been seen assuming an understated yet elegant demeanor and most importantly a relatable one.

Back in February, she was seen wearing a cute blue scrunchie while picking up some treats for Valentine's Day. Her casual style indicated the fact that she is a working woman who definitely has a lot on her plate. Dr. Biden, who taught English at Nothern Virginia Community College full time during her terms as the second lady, has always tried to be more than just a politician's wife. "If we get to the White House, I'm gonna continue to teach," she told CBS News last year. "It's important, and I want people to value teachers and know their contributions, and lift up the profession." Although Dr. Jill Biden is all for practical wear, which helps her transition from the classroom to her duties as FLOTUS. But it doesn't stop her from squeezing in a little fun every now and then and that's exactly what we saw when she was seen strutting in her patterned tights. The fact that critics simply overlooked her potential and ridiculously attacked her for wearing a pair of stockings is a just a shame.
